BJP legislators target Muslim workers in Bangalore Covid War Room

Date: 4 May 2021

BJP MLAs Satish Reddy and Ravi Subramanya turned the ongoing COVID crisis in Bengaluru into communal hate-mongering when they, along with Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya barged into a BBMP COVID War Room and asked officers present if BBMP (city municipal corporation) was a Hajj Bhavan or a Madrasa to recruit only Muslims. The workers were reportedly fired later. The video of the incident which has since gone viral on social media shows the trio aggressively questioning a female IAS officer and other BBMP officials accusing them of running a racket of allocating hospital beds to COVID patients in exchange for bribes. Surya is seen asking the BBMP official what process was followed to recruit the volunteers in the COVID war room, and read out a list of 17 people, who all happened to be Muslims. Bommanahalli MLA Satish Reddy and Basavanagudi MLA Ravi Subramanya are then seen going on a communal tirade asking if BBMP was a madrasa or a Hajj Bhavan to only recruit “these people”. Soon messages started flooding on WhatsApp and social media with the names of the 17 people listed out by Surya, with provocative messages targeting the Muslim community.

Rajasthan secy posts ‘communal’ tweet, deletes later

Date: 12 June 2018

Known for making controversial tweets, Rajasthan’s commissioner of departmental enquiries, Sanjay Dixit, an IAS officer of additional chief secretary rank, used a fake letter of West Bengal government to apparently suggest in a tweet that the state government was indulging in Muslim appeasement.  Mr Dixit described West Bengal as “Islamic state of West Bangladesh” in his tweet, which he later deleted fearing police action. “Just been told that Kolkata Police says it’s fake news,” he tweeted. Using this letter, which according to Kolkata police was fake Mr. Dixit wrote in his tweet, “Meanwhile, Islamic State of West Bangladesh declares the longest Eid holiday ever — a full 5 days of free salary and compulsory holiday for the faithful and infidel alike.” That too after the Kolkata police had issued clarification.
