Bajrang Dal members create ruckus outside Bareilly court over 'love jihad'

Date: 20 April 2021

Members of the Bajrang Dal created ruckus outside a court in Bareilly where a minor girl had turned up reportedly for a court marriage with a man from another community. The activists of the right-wing group claimed that they had gathered there to oppose a court marriage on the basis of "forged papers", showing the girl as a Muslim. The Bajrang Dal activists allegedly thrashed the youth. They called it an incident of "love jihad", a reference to the allegations that Hindu women are being duped into marriages with Muslim men for sake of conversion.

EC announces polling on Eid; TMC, Cong, Left slam for 'bias against Muslims'

Date: 20 April 2021

After the Election Commission announced polling on Eid, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Congress, and Left doubted the EC’s ‘intent’, slamming the poll panel for ‘bias against Muslims’. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit back at the Opposition saying, the 'poll was even held on Chithirai and Bihu as well’. Bengal Imams Association, the apex body of mosque committees in the state, yesterday urged the EC to set a date at least three days after Eid-ul-fitr for voting in Samserganj Assembly seat, where polls were countermanded following the death of Congress candidate Rezaul Haque.

“Open letter” asks why Muslims teach their children to behead people

Date: 16 April 2021

An “open letter” was published in the website Goa Chronicle, penned by one Savio Rodriguez, with the title “Why teach your children to behead people if they question Islam?” Noting that “This hate that some in the Muslim community in India are breeding in their children is sad and disappointing”, the article goes on to assert that “A Muslim is not discriminated against in India because he is a Muslim.” Other assertions made by the author include “So when a Muslim in India inculcates hate in their children and such demonic hate – teaching their children to demand the beheading of a Hindu citizen of India because he questioned and criticized Islam should be condemned” and “People who have indoctrinated young children with such vile thoughts and behavior must be arrested and jailed. They are breeding future terrorists. They are numbing the consciousness of sanity in these children and filling them with insanity.”
