Communal Forces Trying to Lure College Girls into Terrorism: Kerala CPM Warns

Date: 18 September 2021

CPM top leadership in Kerala warned of deliberate efforts by communal forces to lure college girls into terrorist activities, in a note circulated among its cadre.

“Conscious efforts are also being made to entice educated girls from professional colleges into terrorist activities,” the note read.

This came at a time when there was a raging controversy over claims of “love jihad” and “narcotic jihad” targeting the youth of Kerala, and how young college girls were being 'lured' into extremism.

“At professional college campuses, there are deliberate bids to distract educated young women to extremism and fundamentalism. The student fronts and the youth front should pay special attention to this issue,” the note read.

The CPM flagged the rise of “support for the Taliban” and the “trend of communal influence” among Christians.

BJP protests namaz room in Jharkhand House, stalls proceedings

Date: 7 September 2021

The allotment of a room for offering namaz in the Jharkhand assembly led to protests by opposition BJP MLAs, who disrupted proceedings on the first day of Monsoon Session.

Before the session began, the BJP MLAs sat with placards on the stairs at the entrance of the assembly, chanting Hanuman Chalisa and “Hare Rama”. As soon as the proceedings began, they stepped into the Well, shouting “Jai Shri Ram” slogans. They demanded recall of the order related to allotment of the namaz room.

A day earlier, BJP workers had burnt effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the Speaker during protests. BJP MLA CP Singh said: “According to me, there should be a grand temple in the [assembly] premises.”

BJP MLA claims there is ‘land jihad’ in Rajasthan town

Date: 18 September 2021

BJP MLA from Malpura in Tonk, Kanhaiya Lal, alleged “land jihad” by Muslims in Malpura.

Speaking in the Assembly, Lal said that Malpura is a sensitive town and has constantly witnessed communal incidents since 1950 which have led to deaths of more than 100 people.

He said the “Muslim community is running a campaign where they purchase houses and land of Hindu community at rates which are several times over the state government specified rates. They start living in these homes purchased illegally and in an unauthorised way and then fight with their Hindu neighbours every other day, and threaten them”.

Lal said that “upon seeing Hindu daughters and sisters, they start doing objectionable acts and objectionable conversations, which has led to an insecure and fearful environment, which has led to exodus by 600-800 Hindu families from these bastis”.

Listing nine wards, the BJP MLA claimed that most Hindu families from these wards have migrated as these are adjacent to the Muslim locality. Listing two other wards, he said that these have Jain temples while accusing Muslims of throwing leftover bones along the way.

The MLA claimed that some people approached the Malpura sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) and tried to hand over a memorandum, but he refused to even accept it.

Teenager dies after being attacked by cow vigilantes

Date: 13 September 2021

A minor boy was allegedly killed after he was run over by cow vigilantes in Rajasthan’s Alwar district. Relatives of the victim, identified as Sabir Khan, alleged that he was assaulted by local cow vigilantes who had threatened to run him over a few days ago.

The First Information Report said the incident took place when Khan and his friends had gone for a run on Sunday morning near Nehar Khedi Road in Alwar.

The police booked seven people, including the cow vigilante identified by Khan’s family, under charges of murder and other offences. The police said their preliminary investigation suggested that Khan’s death was a road accident.

The police said that Khan was hit by two vehicles, one of which belonged to alleged cow smugglers, and the other reportedly belonged to cow vigilantes, who were chasing the smugglers.

However, Khan’s family have accused the police of trying to suppress the matter.

“The police want to completely change the direction of the case...There is no role of any vehicle transporting cows,” Imran, a cousin of Khan told The Indian Express. “The accused threatened the kids earlier and then killed Sabir.”

Khan’s friend Mohammed Alim, who witnessed the incident, said that they used to go for a run on the road every morning. A few days ago, they had an argument with Anil, a resident of a nearby village.

The boys had asked Anil not to drive his car fast when they were on their daily run.

“Anil had threatened us at that time...He works with the [Hindutva group] Bajrang Dal,” Alim told The Indian Express. “On Sunday morning, after running over Sabir, he slowed down the car and told me, I have run over your brother, now you know me.”

Kerala will turn into another Afghanistan in 10 years: BJP MP

Date: 18 September 2021

Alphonse Kannanthanam, ex-IAS officer and BJP MP from Kerala, who is also a former union minister, stated that there was rapid ‘Talibanisation’ taking place in Kerala. He warned that the state will turn into another Afghanistan in 5-10 years.  He alleged that the LDF government could not speak out against Muslims because it needed their votes. The seeds of terrorism were being sown even in a highly educated state like Kerala, he said.
