Fake news claims Shah Rukh Khan thanked only Muslim fans

Date: 29 September 2021

A screenshot of an article purportedly published by media outlet Jansatta was shared on Facebook to claim that Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan credited fans of a single community for his success as a superstar.

However, it was found that the screenshot in question had been altered and that the organisation did not publish any such information.

The text written in Hindi in the viral screenshot, when translated to English, reads: "If I am a superstar today, then the biggest thank you is to our Muslim brothers who, even after being poor, only watched the films of Khans. Our Islam also favours such a Muslim bonhomie."

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 29 September, Jansatta took to Twitter to state that the screenshot being shared on social media is "completely fake."

Five-Year-Old Video of IAS Officer With Religious Preacher Prompts UP Police Probe

Date: 29 September 2021

A five-year-old video clip of a gathering at a senior IAS official’s home where the virtues of Islam are being discussed has prompted the Uttar Pradesh government to order an inquiry by a special investigation team.

In one of the videos, Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) chairman Mohammed Iftikharuddin is seen sitting with a group of men, apparently clerics. He is heard quoting Ayat 158 of the Surah Araafa which says all is God’s nizaamat and that after the last prophet, it is the duty of individuals to carry ‘deen’ to all of humanity.

In a related video, there is a gathering where another man is talking about how in Punjab someone came to him saying he wanted to convert to Islam after seeing his sister burning in the pyre after her death.

The videos were said to be taken at Iftikharuddin’s official residence  when he was the Kanpur divisional commissioner between 2014 and 2017.

Since propagating a religion or extolling its virtue is not an offence, it is not clear what crime the SIT intends to investigate. Inviting a religious preacher to one’s officially allotted accommodation  is also not a crime. However UP minister of law and justice Brajesh Pathak said the place where the IAS officer is sitting and preaching seems to be a government property, “which is not at all appropriate legally or constitutionally”, he claimed.

The state government is particularly strict on the matter of religious conversion, Pathak added. “We have even made a strict law regarding that. We will take strict action against anyone who tries to convert people using force or any kind of lure.”

The videos, however, do not indicate the use or threat of force, or of any kind of allurement. And they were made five years before UP’s new anti-conversion law.

NDTV reports that the videos were shared among others by the verified Twitter account of Neeraj Jain, deputy mayor of the Ajmer municipal corporation. His Twitter profile describes Jain as a former national vice president of the BJP’s youth wing and an RSS worker.

Iftikharuddin, who is currently posted in state capital Lucknow, told a TV channel that he had said nothing objectionable in the video that its reporter showed him.

Nevertheless, the government has ordered a probe by the SIT, an official said.

Doctored video shows boy trying to convert Hindu boy to Islam

Date: 29 September 2021

A video of two boys having a conversation about Hindus, Muslims and Islam is widely circulating on social media. One of the boys, who is on a cycle, claims or pretends to be a Muslim and goes on to make a series of provocative pro-Islam statements including promoting religious conversion. While the other individual, who is behind the camera and cannot be seen, is claiming or pretending to be a Hindu.

The video was shared by @Jasdevspeaks with the claim that Muslims want to dominate Hindus after SP’s win in the upcoming UP elections in 2022. It was also shared by @igopalgoswami with the text, “He’s AMU student”. The latter’s tweet gained over 800 retweets. Sudarshan News journalist Rajat Mishra also tweeted this video. He stated that the alleged Muslim boy is a minor and warned his audience about religious conversion.

Responding to tweets by Mishra and Twitter user @igopalgoswami, Aligarh police stated that the video was made by two minors from the same community.

Alt News spoke with a local journalist in Aligarh who said, “I spoke with the parents of one of the minors. I can confirm that both boys are from the Hindu community.”

Man accused of raping minor girl falsely identified as Muslim

Date: 28 September 2021

A video of a man apprehended by a group of people, including a woman who thrashes him, was shared on social media. The group accuses the man of raping a four-year-old child. Several social media users shared the video and claimed that the accused is AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya’s social media coordinator ‘Akram Khan’.

Similarly, FB page ‘अगले २० साल तक मोदी‘ and Twitter user Akash RSS also made a similar claim. In the past, Akash RSS has been found sharing misinformation on various occasions.

India Today reported that a four-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Delhi’s Bapa Nagar on August 31. The accused, who has been arrested under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, has been identified as Dipesh. SHO Ram Narayan at Prasad Nagar police station told Aaj Tak that Dipesh is not from the Muslim community.

The claim that AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya’s social media coordinator ‘Akram Khan’ was accused of raping a four-year-old is, therefore, false. The incident was falsely given an anti-Muslim narrative.
